Bigballs Films Directors

Bigballs first met pro-snowboarder Gendle whilst making mountain murder mystery Conquering Demons for Oakley, and his unique sense of humour and boundless energy have been with us ever since.

As natural and engaging on camera as he is behind the lens, Gendle has been directing films for Oakley, Virgin Active, Pretty Green and I AM PLAYR as well as presenting series for Red Bull and Disney. For us Gendle personifies a new and exciting generation of digital native filmmakers.

A natural 'people person', Gendle is someone you can’t help but love, and his sense of fun fuels every production he’s involved with.

Bert & Bertie are a female directing duo with a penchant for moustaches, Fedora hats and good stories. With combined backgrounds in theatre, film, photography and video games, by the time their stars aligned they already had a BAFTA and a BAFTA nomination between them.

Meeting for the first time on set, they shared a comical idea that later became Phobias - their first award-winning short film. They’ve also worked with well-known names such as Benicio del Toro, PlayStation, the English National Ballet, the BBC and even David Essex. The tenacious two have made a variety of shorts, picked up a bunch more awards, presented work in the Venice Biennale, written film & game screenplays and brought their unique visual style and narrative flair to the world of commercials.

Constantly blurring lines between reality and fantasy, theirs is a world of visual invention, crackling with comedy and peppered with striking performances.

Since meeting at University, Luke and Gav have been the directing partnership behind Bigballs' most groundbreaking multiplatform shows and campaigns.

From the world’s first social networking drama Kate Modern, to BAFTA-nominated, real-time festival drama 'Who Killed Summer?,' commercials for Carling and Stoptober and global campaigns for Johnnie Walker and Oakley.

Blessed with the energy and audacity to pull off integrated projects that other directors would deem impossible, their experience spans TV, online, mobile and real-time filmmaking. Quite simply, there’s nothing they like more than a challenge.

New Director John's move to making commercials follows on from huge success as a stylist and image maker for food and lifestyle brands, working in Paris, London and the rest of the world for Knorr, McDonalds, Nestlé, KFC, Danone, Philips, Land Rover, Harrods and more.

His debut work as a self taught photographer received accolades from Madame Figaro and the La Durée Awards and his accomplishment as a stylist in TV commercials and movies alongside the worlds best talent in Directing, Cinematography and Art Direction gave John just the platform he needed to set about making films himself.

John's love of craft and composition, collaboration and authenticity in his work make it original and articulte yet playful, honest and stylish.

Chris Dodd & Nick Ross make up the directing duo Good Boy Wolf.

Nick previously an actor, starred in Harry Potter amongst others, later found his calling as an editor before moving into directing. Please ask Nick to see his acting head shots. They are a giggle.

Chris, having worked as a art director at Ogilvy and Iris later found his calling, turning to photography and directing. He likes tattoos and most recently found out that growing a beard does not make him look attractive.

It is rare to find two people that are strong friends, young, creative and award winning from the offset.

What isn't rare is their use of hats, rotating on a daily basis between baseball, flat and bobbles.

Having previously worked as a drama writer for Sky One and Endemol, Lewis’s first job behind the camera as Writer/Director was MSN Online's sci-fi drama Krill which received an Emmy nomination and went on to win a Webby for best drama episode

He followed up this groundbreaking digital production by directing the second season of online drama Cell through Sony Pictures and Fox International to critical acclaim.

His ability to elicit good performances with great timing comes from his experience in comedy as one third of sketch group Big Day Out, writing and performing sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Festival, Brighton Comedy Festival and London’s Pleasance Theatre.

Alexander Haines

Alex doesn't do things the traditional way. He came to directing and editing via the varied worlds of trawler man, celeb assistant, building labourer, fish salesman, Doves tour manager and advertising production assistant. As you'd expect, he always gives a fresh perspective on every task. What you get goes beyond what you'd expect. He has a director's eye for detail and an editor's appetite for storytelling, always searching to unearth the emotional truth of any story.

Wayne is an experienced performance director with a great aptitude for storytelling and casting.

Armed with a B.A in Literature, M.A in Ideology and a PHD in Philosophy, Wayne won a Creative Circle for his first ever ad which he directed for the Met Police. He has since picked up a Cannes Lions award for his work on NASCAR and a World Medal at the New York Ad Festival Awards.

His first feature Snake & Mongoose, a 70’s drag racing movie, was released in the US on the 6th of September, he is set to follow this up with Untitled Punk Movie starring Paloma Faith and Jessica Brown Finlay, which is set to commence shooting in Autumn 2014.

Robbie's approach to filmmaking is likely to be influenced by his early exposure to the craft from within. He has worked on numerous behind the scenes projects (EPKs) for feature films, and was often sent on exciting, renegade missions outside of his role. Entrusted by acclaimed directors, including Terry George, he shot additional material cut into the features themselves.

His directional work includes a commercial for PETA starring Vivienne Westwood, branded content for Moleskine and a music video for The Hear The World Foundation. He also works across various platforms for clients including Stella McCartney, Bryan Adams and Hobbs.

His background in graphic design, along with years of filming and editing experience gives Robbie a strong aesthetic sensibility and the technical understanding he feels is essential when collaborating in order to create beautiful films.

Alice spent half her childhood in South Africa and half in a haunted house in suburbia surrounded by dead animals…which explains why she started making low budget horror films at the age of 8 and can’t resist a biltong. Whilst in London she graduated Central Saint Martins with a BA in Graphic Design.

After graduating she started her career as a creative at advertising agency 101 where she art directed a series of films for French Connection which went on to win a D&AD award. During her stay at 101 she worked with various brands including Cadbury, Baileys, Innocent and Kettle before realising she wanted to make films about real life and real people. Her next move was to quit her 9-5 and fly to America where she lived in a forest with 10,000 hippies, made her first film and never looked back.
