História HP hoped to create a social program that both promoted the film, The Lorax, and taught audiences how to become part of the closed-loop recycling process by turning in used print cartridges, buying paper that is made from sustainable forests and purchasing printers that are made with the environment in mind. They hoped to increase awareness of IPG’s strong environmental commitment and emotionally connect their leading printers, papers, and supplies as the brand of choice for parents and youth who factor sustainability into their purchase decisions.
Designkitchen partnered with HP to create an interactive Facebook application that allowed parents and children to work together on building a digital Truffula tree, simply by answering a series of questions about sustainable options and by agreeing to take a few small eco challenges to watch their trees grow taller. The more active the users, and the more badges received, the bigger a donation HP made in the players’ name to the World Wildlife Fund.
The initial fundraising goal of $20K was met in just two weeks. Of 15K Truffula seeds planted, 73% grew to their full potential. There were 155K Facebook application views, as well as over 2500 tweets dedicated to the project, reaching at least 15M people. HP gained 15K new Facebook fans and by the end, $37.5K was donated on behalf of HP and its fans to the World Wildlife Fund.
