Worldwide, about 8% of men and 0.5% of women are color blind, which can affect their perception of the colors red, green and blue. This trait often remains undetected among children until they’re between 6 and 8 years old, which can lead to problems in school and daily life. In order to aid early detection, online store Babyshop has launched a range of dual-color pencils, combining “normal” rainbow colors with the hues a color blind person would see. These are used for simple screening sessions using coloring books in selected schools in Dubai, allowing on-the-spot detection of color blindness. The experiment is due to be expanded to other schools in Dubai and potentially further afield.
