Tell us about your internship, what are your main responsibilities?
I’m currently the Account Management intern on the Miller Lite Team. I have been able to touch a large chunk of responsibilities this summer, but some of my main jobs have been taking recap notes, researching competitors including top beverage campaigns, and helping to project manage multiple projects in order to create Miller Lite GIPHYs and other social posts. Additionally, I worked a lot on prepping for the Molson Coors VP leadership meeting, which allowed me to learn more about the clients.
Do you have a dream account or brand you’d like to work with? Which one?
I don’t have one specific dream brand in mind, but I would love to be able to work on the marketing and advertising team of a major hotel chain. I have interned in the hospitality industry and find it really exciting and gives you a little taste of vacation every day.
Talk to us about the culture in your office, how has it impacted your internship?
The culture at DDB is very encouraging. The employees have a strong work ethic and have taught me a lot about hard work and putting in the extra hours when needed. The company gives the interns so much knowledgeable advice from all different positions and departments. DDB has allowed me to see all the ins and outs of the advertising industry!
What have you learned about the advertising industry that surprised you?
One thing that surprised me a lot was all of the legal requirements that must be met before an ad can be brought to life. There are a lot of restrictions and laws that can sometimes make the process difficult or even kill a whole idea.
Choose a current popular advertising trend and tell us what’s interesting about it:
Molson Coors, as well as many other beers, have recently stepped into the cannabis industry and are working on infusing it into their brews. This will be advertised towards millennials who are drinking more craft beers and specialty drinks instead of domestic brews. It will be interesting to see if this trend takes off or not, as it will create a whole new category.
Imagine your dream job, where are you, what does a day-to-day look like?
My dream job would anything that allows me to wear many different hats. My day to day would never look exactly the same! One day I would love to be able to do the advertising and marketing for a luxury hotel. My dad is in the real estate industry and it has allowed me to see a lot of what goes into it, and how exciting it can be.
Are you considering another internship, or looking for jobs now? What are your next steps?
I am currently looking for a full-time job. I’m networking and am eager and open to any experience within the industry!
What is your favorite ad of all time?
Besides all Miller Lite advertising, I love the Cosmopolitan Hotel commercials and print ads so much. They catch your eye, are interesting, and overall super effective. It stands out to me because it is completely different than other hotel ads. It’s the first thing I envision when I picture Las Vegas!
