They’re surfing in the rain

Historic Saint Petersburg is a labyrinth of archways and covered passages, which is pretty handy given that it rains 200 days a year. The downside is that 4G cell phone coverage is patchy. Mobile operator Tele2 and its agency Geometry put these two facts together and came up with a sublime idea: 4G routers that work via tiny turbines powered by the pouring rain. So now the city’s citizens can check their apps and social media while sheltering from the showers. We’re not sure how the routers can be activated when it’s not raining, although we have a pretty radical idea…
